ISSUANCE OF HOUSE BILL OF LADING
House Bill of Lading (HBL) is a bill of lading issued by a NON Carrier, NVOCC or a Freight Forwarder to their customers. A Freight Forwarder like Acuity is similar to an Ocean Carrier except that we do not operate vessels that is used for SEA transportation.
In short, House Bill of Lading is HBL - issued by NVOCC or Freight Forwarders and Master Bill of Lading is MBL - issued by Ocean Carriers.
Although Acuity issues own HBL, it will be declared, signed, and issued as a Bill of Lading which performs the same roles as MBL. This is meant for the ease of customer in both ends as Acuity will then alert our destination partners in advance of the shipments together with the contact details of consignee.
In this case, both the shipper and the consignee will be assured that their shipment is in good hands and will receive updates from us through time.
In any Bill of Lading, Shipper, Consignee and Notify Party stated in the Bill of Lading decides when the cargo can be released. The only differences on HBL is that the HBL will be in our partners hand until consignee come forth settling all the required Local charges at destination.
At the point where a House Bill of Lading is in place, the Master Bill of Lading will be more on a resting mode and does not play the main role in terms of documentation between the buyer and seller.
